Walter John Songaila
July 15, 1942 – July 25, 2025
With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Walter John Songaila, who left this world peacefully at home, surrounded by his devoted family, on July 25, 2025 and entered into his eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born on July 15, 1942 to Peter and Mary (Wienckoski) Songaila, Walter lived a life marked by generosity, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. He shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carole Ann (Wanat) Songaila, a partnership grounded in love, friendship, and joy.
Walter was a proud and loving father to Tom Songaila, married to Lori (Yencha) Songaila, and their children Ryan and Ashley; Terri Songaila; and Mary Kay (Songaila) Sheahan, married to Brian Sheahan, and their children Lauren and the late Kyle Sheahan, whose memory Walter carried tenderly in his heart. He was also a cherished brother to Loretta Songaila and the late Teddy Songaila, brother-in-law to Robert and Sandra Wanat, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Walter was known for his vibrant spirit and magnetic personality—truly the life of every gathering. He found joy in golf, winemaking, and bird watching, but his greatest happiness came from time spent with family. Whether sharing stories around the dinner table or raising a glass of his homemade wine, Walter brought warmth, humor, and love to every moment.
His legacy is one of deep love, strong family bonds, and a life well lived. Walter will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date for close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity in his name is welcomed.
