Obituary

Virginia H. Engle, 95, formerly of Forty-Fort, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025 at Edenbrook on Second Ave., in Kingston.

Born on March 28, 1930, in Kingston, Virginia was the daughter of the late Peter and Rosalia Swast Polterwicz.

A faithful Catholic, Virginia was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville and a member of its Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

She was a dedicated volunteer at her church, where she generously contributed her time and talents to various activities, including organizing the rummage sales, making pierogis, and helping with the annual church bazaars, with a warm heart and a smile.

In earlier years, she cherished trips with her husband and daughter, creating many happy memories together.  She especially enjoyed her trip to Europe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sgt. James W. Engle; her son, James Engle Jr.; her grandson-in-law, Kevin Krovich; her sisters, Wanda Slusser, Bridget Hrimnock, and Helen Anderson; and her brother, Frank Patlewicz.

Surviving are her beloved daughter, Maureen Engle; grandchildren, Jennifer Engle and Jason Engle, both of Mechanicsburg; three great grandchildren, Amber, Jason, and Joey; her niece, Shirley Vozniak and her husband, Robert, Swoyersville; her great niece, Allison Vozniak, Swoyersville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Virginia's family would especially like to thank the staff at Edenbrook on Second Ave. for their care of her, as well as Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate and informative care, notably Sarah, Julie, Ida and the Chaplain.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville, with the Reverend John J. Chmil, officiating.

The Confraternity of Christian Mothers of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will recite the Rosary on Friday morning at 9:30 A.M. in the church.

Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Family and friends may call Friday morning from 9:30 A.M. until the time of mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia's name to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, PA 18704.
