Obituary

Thomas J. Shelley, 91, of Plymouth, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.

Born on January 31, 1934, in Plymouth, Thomas was the son of the late Marshall and Lucy Lynch Shelley.

Thomas was a dedicated member of St. Ignatius Church in Kingston, Pennsylvania, where he also participated in the choir. He was a graduate of St. Vincent's High School in Plymouth, Class of 1951, and also held a degree from King's College, Class of 1955.

Thomas honorably served his country in the United States Navy.

In his commitment to serving others, Thomas was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Pennsylvania and volunteered for the Red Cross relief efforts in the Wyoming Valley area.

Professionally, he served for many years as a Welfare Agent with the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare prior to his retirement.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Christian Adonizio and the team at Geisinger Hematology for their exceptional care.

A special thank you is also given to the wonderful team at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore for their invaluable care and compassion.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Shelley Coolbaugh; and brothers, Marshall and George Shelley.

Surviving are his sons, Christopher Shelley, Seattle, WA; John Shelley and his wife, Dawn, Clarks Green; and Adam Shelley, Wilkes-Barre; nine grandchildren, Melissa Shelley, Ryan Coolbaugh, Emily Coolbaugh, Robert Coolbaugh, Matthew Shelley, Jonathan Shelley, Sydney Shelley, Hannah Shelley, John Shelley and Addison Shelley; five great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, 339 North Maple Avenue, Kingston.

Interment will follow in Saint Vincent De Paul Cemetery, Larksville.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St., Dunmore, PA 18510.
