Obituary

Theresa Sterowski, 88, of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully at home with her son by her side, on Thursday, September 28, 2023.

Born in Wilkes-Barre (Miners Mills), on October 3, 1934, the Feast of St. Theresa. Theresa was the daughter of the late Daniel and Cecelia (Kwasneski) Slovinski.

Theresa was a graduate of Coughlin High School Class of 1952.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Swoyersville.

Theresa was a lifelong homemaker, a role she cherished and excelled at.  She was a devoted wife and mother and her husband and son were the center of her world.

She took great pride in her home, right down to her perfectly laundered clothes and working in her garden.

She enjoyed listening to the radio, loved her polkas, and was known for cooking wonderful meals especially, her homemade Polish potato dumplings.

Theresa also enjoyed her family trips each year to Cape Cod and day trips to Lancaster and the Poconos. Most of all she loved reminiscing and telling stories about her life with her family and friends.  Anyone that knew Theresa, knew she was rarely at a loss for words.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty one years, P. Leonard Sterowski; infant sister, Frances; brother, Robert Slovinski; and her aunt, Joanna Slovinski, who raised her after the death of her own mother.

Surviving are her beloved son, Reverend Scott Sterowski, Pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Olyphant and Blessed Sacrament Parish in Throop; loving cousins and best friends, Dr. Gary and Angie Batok; and sister-in-law, Diane Slovinski, Plains.

A special thank you to Bishop Joseph C. Bambera for his compassion and concern provided to both Theresa and her priest son.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville, with the Rev. Scott Sterowski, her son, serving as celebrant.
