Stanley J. Galenty, 86, of West Wyoming, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at his home.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Davis Galenty. Together, Stanley and Rita shared a beautiful life and would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on November 5th.

Born on February 20, 1940, in Kingston, Stanley was the son of the late Stanley and Margaret (Koptcho) Galenty. A dedicated and hardworking man, he was employed for 42 years by Plainwell Paper (formerly Cascade Paper of Ransom) prior to his retirement.

An avid outdoorsman and craftsman of nature, he was an exceptional gardener who took great pride in growing fruits and vegetables. He also possessed a unique talent for foraging mushrooms—a skill and passion he proudly passed down to his son, Stan. Stanley’s green thumb even earned him a place in local history; he was influential in the formation of the Pittston Tomato Festival and was the very first winner of the festival's tomato contest. In his earlier years, he was also a skilled dart player and competed in various local dart leagues.

In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his sisters, Florence Villano and Louise Anderko, and his brother, David Galenty.

Stanley truly appreciated the simpler things in life. His greatest joy was his family, and he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His legacy of love and family lives on through his surviving family: his devoted wife, Rita; his daughter, Michele Galenty (fiancé, John Rooney); his sons, John Galenty (Carolyn), and Stan Galenty (Eileen); his three granddaughters, Julie Berry (Justin), Olivia Schell (Jake), and Kenzie Galenty; his five great-grandchildren, Parker, Avery, and Keegan Berry, Hannah Vest, and Eloise Schell.

He also leaves behind his sister, Margaret Reback, and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held under the care of the Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming. Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Wyoming.
