Nanette Marie Keeler-Thompson, 54, of Avoca, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, following a courageous 12-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Her loving husband is Michael Thompson. Michael and Nanette were together for fourteen years and would have celebrated their 2nd wedding anniversary on November 9th.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on April 20, 1972, she was the beloved daughter of Russell and Doreen (Gutowski) Keeler of Exeter.
Nanette was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Class of 1990. During her high school years, she was active in the band, played volleyball, and proudly served as a member of the color guard. Following graduation, she continued her education at Fortis Institute, where she earned an associate’s degree in Medical Assisting.
Nanette loved to work and took great pride in everything she did. A true workaholic, she dedicated many years to helping others. She served as a tax manager for several local Liberty Tax Service locations for the past eight years. Prior to that, she was employed by Interim Health Services for 15 years.
Those who knew her will remember her for her remarkable strength and determination, unwavering devotion to her family, and the unconditional love she so freely shared. Throughout her 12-year journey with Multiple Sclerosis, she faced each challenge with courage, perseverance, and grace.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Joseph and Leona Gutowski; paternal grandparents, Theodore and Margaret Keeler; her uncles, Allan, William, and Theodore Keeler; her uncle and godfather, Joseph Gutowski; her aunt, Sally Medcalf; and her nephews, Gregory Joseph Keeler and Caleb Michael Keeler.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Michael Thompson; her daughter, Brooke Keeler, and her wife, Leticia; her parents, Russell and Doreen Keeler; her brothers, Russell Keeler and his wife, Ann Marie, and Gregory Keeler and his wife, Sarah; her nieces and nephew, Derek, Amethyst, Caroline, Cadence, and Deliah; her lifelong best friend, Amy Polesnak; and her faithful companion and self-appointed bodyguard, her dog, Sampson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation which will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony of Padua Church of Corpus Christi Parish, 224 Memorial St., Exeter.
A Memorial Mass will begin at 11:00 A.M., with the Reverend Louis A. Grippe serving as celebrant and Monsignor John J. Sempa as concelebrant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nanette’s memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 733 Third Avenue, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10017.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming.
