John Allan Vasil

John "Jack" Vasil, 81, of Exeter, was called home to rest on Christmas morning, December 25, 2023.

He was the beloved husband of Jeanette Chismer Vasil for the past 53 years.

Born on March 5, 1942, Jack was the son of the late Jake and Helen Verostek Vasil.

Jack attended Exeter High School and graduated from Bethel University (TN) following his service in the U.S. Army where he served in the Berlin Crisis of 1961.

Jack worked as an accountant, realtor, and underwriter before starting his own insurance company, Dietterick-Vasil Insurance Agency in Kingston, Pennsylvania.

Jack enjoyed hunting whitetail deer his entire life, starting with a rifle as a young boy and culminating with a crossbow throughout his 70's.  He used his marksman skills to take several trophy bucks after scouting them throughout the fall with his brother. Jack loved spending time at his cabin and in the woods.  He loved the hunt and appreciated the camaraderie of his hunting friends every bit as much.

Jack's other sport of choice was golf.  From his start as a caddie at Fox Hill Country Club, to his Army days as "The German Champ", to his Emanon Country Club and Fox Hill Country Club memberships and AGA tournament schedule, Jack's good weather weekends were always booked.  Jack was tournament-level scratch amateur who proudly passed his love for the game to his son, Jay, whom he always made every effort to play with from the earliest age allowable by the course and tournament committees.

Jack was first and foremost a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.  He quietly and dutifully did everything he could for his family his entire life and could always be relied upon.  Jack, who lived his life with a significant hearing impairment, was an "actions speak louder than words" guy who always delivered on his promises.  Jack lived his entire life as a practicing Catholic, and rarely ever missed Sunday masses.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Donna.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette; son, Jay, daughter-in-law, Beth, brother, Gerard; and grandchildren, Darcy and Jake.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Barabara's Parish, St. Anthony's Church, 224 Memorial St., Exeter, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Swoyersville, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army.

Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
