Obituary

Joanne T. Podwika, 78, of Pittston and formerly of East Sixth Street, Wyoming, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Wesley Village Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Pittston.

Born in Kingston, on October 3, 1945, Joanne was the daughter of the late John and Nellie Lukum Podwika.

She lived most of her life in Wyoming and was a member of the former Saint Joseph's Church, Wyoming, and following its closing, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.

Prior to her retirement, Joanne was employed as a Registered Nurse and was an avid hockey fan of the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her niece and goddaughter, Dyanne Van Horn, who passed away on April 19, 2021.

Surviving are her brother, John Podwika and his wife, Carol, of Pittston and several cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming.

A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend John J. Chmil, officiating.

Private interment will be held in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Pittston.
