David J. Gashi Sr., 82, of Exeter Township, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, at his home.
His beloved wife of 60 years was the late Virginia Reilly Gashi who passed away on June 14, 2022.
Born in Kingston on December 14, 1943, he was the son of the late Henry and Anna (Kutyana) Gashi. David was a dedicated member of St. Monica Parish in West Wyoming.
David served a distinguished 38-year career in law enforcement, retiring on January 1, 2009, as the Police Chief of West Wyoming. During his tenure, he led the Luzerne/Lackawanna County Drug Task Force and founded the Policeman's Ball to foster stronger community relationships. Beyond his public service, he owned and operated the multi-generational family business, Gashi & Sons Tree Service.
In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry and Joseph Gashi; and his sisters, Regina Krostag, Henrietta Timinski, and Joan Orleski.
David is survived by his loving children, Lisa Scatena, and her husband, Girard, Jenkins Twp; Linda Gashi, Wyoming; David Gashi Jr., Harding; Edward Gashi and his wife, Lacy, Harding; James Gashi and his wife, Nicole, Harding; and Christine Adamchak and her husband, Mark, Swoyersville; 10 grandchildren; 4 great granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2026, from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Monica Parish, 363 W. Eighth St., West Wyoming, with the Rev. Peter Tomczak, officiating.
Private interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
Family and friends are invited to attend David's viewing on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
