Betty Bytheway passed away peacefully following a stroke on July 29, 2026, at Wilson Memorial Medical Center in Johnson City, New York.

In the summer of 1972, while working in New York City, Betty purchased a small farm in Norwich, New York. Three years later, in 1975, she made Norwich her permanent home. Along with her then-partner, Jean Blackburn, Betty continued providing pre-press services to technical, scientific, and scholarly publishers through Bytheway Publishing Services. After more than four decades of work, the business closed its doors in 2018 when both partners retired.

Retirement brought Betty the opportunity to pursue another passion: helping others. Together with several friends, she founded Stride Therapeutic Riding Services, a program serving children and adults with disabilities. The program operated for 10 years and became one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of Betty’s life.

Betty is survived by her aunts, Dolores Sandroski, Exeter, and Helen Szura, Wyoming; her uncle, Joseph Szura, Wyoming; and numerous cousins and extended family members.

A private interment will be held, with Betty’s ashes laid to rest with her mother, the late Mary Bytheway, at St. John the Baptist Cemetery on Cedar Street in Exeter.

Memorial donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Norwich SPCA.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming.
