Barbara Ann Kitchen, 83 of West Wyoming, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Allied Services Hospice Center in Wilkes-Barre surrounded by her loving family and devoted neighbors.
Born in West Wyoming on April 25, 1942, Barbara was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Zelinsky) Nemic.
Barbara was a woman of faith and member of St. John the Evangelist in Pittston. A graduate of her local nursing program, she dedicated 50 years to providing compassionate nursing care, first in private duty and then at Wesley Village Nursing Home in Jenkins Twp.
Barbara was blessed with a loving heart and generous spirit. She was one of a kind and had a gift for making everyone feel like family. Her happiest times were those spent with her loving husband of 60 years, Robert Kitchen. Whether they were on a cross country road trip, one of many international cruises, or cooking at home, Barbara and Bob were always together and ready for their next adventure.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Robert H. Kitchen, and her sisters, Rosemary Boyer and Marie Nicholas.
Surviving are her siblings, sister, Joan Vrhel and husband, Melvin, Carverton; brother, John Nemic and wife, Margaret, West Wyoming; sister, Jean Jones, Easton; brother, George Walker and wife, Karen, Carverton; sister, Donna Fontimayor, Georgia; sister, Debra Hartman and husband, Kevin, Dupont; sister-in-law, Vlorien Sokolov and husband, George, New Jersey; multiple nieces and nephews, as well as many caring and devoted neighbors and friends. The family extends a special thank you to Robert Kovitch and Frances O'Shea for their kindness and support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Barbara's viewing which will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 8 to 10 A.M. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston, followed by the celebration of her Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M.
Private interment will be held in Mount Zion Cemetery, Harding.
