Obituary

Alberta Sapiego, 93, of Exeter, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2024 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Exeter, on April 2, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Balent Brek.

She was a member of St. Barbara's Parish in Exeter, and was a former member of the Christian Mothers of St. John the Baptist Church in Pittston.

As a devout Catholic with devotion to the Blessed Mother, she prayed the rosary and was a faithful St. Ann's Novena attendee.

Alberta enjoyed playing Bingo, watching the polkas, and the many trips she and Martin took to Atlantic City and the Mohegan Sun Casino.

Family and her faith were paramount to Alberta.  She cherished her time with her family, especially cooking Sunday and holiday dinners at her home, but above all, she loved to go and sit on her screened in porch, relaxing with family and friends.

A devoted homemaker most of her life, Alberta worked in the local garment industry and cigar factories in her earlier years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of 73 years, Martin J. Sapiego on August 22, 2023; and her sisters, Margaret Geracci and Mary Wasko.

Surviving are her children, Robert Sapiego and his wife, Sharon; Mary Lynn Cefalo and her husband, Fred; Melanie Sapiego and her significant other, Randy Burgess; 4 grandchildren, Katrina, Nicholas, Ashlee, and Freddie; 3 great grandchildren, Quentin, Claudia, and Theo; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 5th at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, of St. Barbara's Parish, 224 Memorial St., Exeter.

Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schooley St., Exeter.

Family and friends are invited to attend Alberta's viewing which will be held Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of mass in the church.

The family kindly asks that flowers be omitted.
